Contra Costa’s First Black Female District Attorney
The California Democratic Party African American Caucus would like to congratulate Diana Becton, who is a retired Superior Court Judge, for being appointed District Attorney by the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors this past Tuesday, September 12th.
Becton holds a Bachelors in economics from San Francisco State University and later graduated from the Golden Gate University Law School. She practiced law for about eight years and then became an judge. Becton also gained early experience working in the public sector in the eighties with the City of Richmond’s Housing Finance and Development department.
She was appointed to the bench in 1995 and was later elected as Presiding Judge for the 2011-2012 term, and served as Assistant Presiding Judge 2009-2010. She comes to the District Attorneys office with a wealth of experience and leadership. She has served in many roles, including Supervising Civil Fast Track, Supervising Felony Criminal Calendar, Supervising Richmond Branch court, and Presiding Judge of the former Richmond Municipal Court.
